Rya Rug
Rya Rug is a classic of traditional Finnish handicraft. This art piece should occupy pride of place in your home, even when it’s still unfinished. You can relax and let your thoughts fly free, while you tie the knots. You can sit your guests – big or small – in the Rya Rug Workshop while you’re cooking steaks in the kitchen.
1. Cut a humongous pile of strips of even-striped tricot, about
1¼” / 3 cm wide and 6″ / 15 cm long.
2. Hang a rug canvas or non-slip net on the wall.
3. Tie the strips to the canvas / net.
P.S. You can use the Rya Rug also as a floor rug or bedspread, but then the net of knots needs to be even denser than in the wall piece.
P.P.S Don’t even think about making the whole piece on one go. Let the Rya Rug mature in peace over time.
